Passenger and public transport has been, and is destined to be, crucial in the infrastructure of modern countries. Fast, efficient public transport allows flexibility in workforces, more efficient use of time and energy and greater personal choice and freedom. The car cannot compete with trains and trams in many respects and may lose out to well designed public transport in urban areas more and more in the future.
